International Therapeutics Summit 2021

United States Southeast Division High School Competition of the International Therapeutics Summit 2021.

Thank you to our sponsors for making this a wonderful year two! We hope to see you all again in April 2022!

The International Therapeutics Summit is a platform for researchers, high school and undergraduate, to share projects in biomedicine, biomedical engineering, and any other discipline that focuses on the development of a therapy to treat a disease.

Congratulations to Krish Wadhwani (winner) and Macy Yang (runner-up)

It’s a wrap: International Therapeutics Summit 2021

The US southeast division of the International Therapeutics Summit occurred from April 12th – April 14th. Students from the southeast states presented their biomedical-related project to a panel of fifteen judges and engaged in an intensive Q&A session.

Winner: Krish Wadhwani (Atlanta, GA)

Krish is a junior at Denmark High School. He serves as the founder of HD Solvera, his multipurpose medical nonprofit. His research presentation was titled: “Using Neuromarkers to Develop a Molecular Biosynthetic Treatment Network.” In his research, Krish is proposing a synthetic-based treatment that can inhibit a wide range of neurotoxic drug surfaces in patients suffering from Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s. Krish’s therapy has been computationally confirmed and has been tested at many laboratory sites. In fact, a medical information officer at Johnson & Johnson attested to the accuracy of his therapy. He also submitted a supplemental research paper titled: “Modulating Family Transcription Factor-DNA Binding Interactions for Aggressive Blood-Forming Cancer Cell Remedy.” Krish’s presentation will be shared with thousands in the upcoming months, his supplemental paper will be published in two renowned peer-reviewed journals, and he will receive a cash prize. Krish was also one of the few high schoolers in the country to qualify for the International Healthcare Innovation & Ingenuity Conference. In the future, Krish wants to pursue a dual degree in bioscience and management at Harvard University. Many congratulations to Krish and the Wadhwani family!

Runner-Up: Macy Yang (Mobile, AL)

Macy Yang is a senior and lives in Mobile, Alabama. She is the president of the “Girls Who Code” and “Computer Science” clubs at her school. Macy’s research focused on the most ideal combination of alternatives to immunotherapy. She says immunotherapy is often non-specific so she conducted statistical and mathematical modeling tests that indicate the most ideal alternative treatments for 90% of current cancer patients. In addition to this work, Macy is creating an injection device that would provide more accurate drug delivery to cancer patients, which would significantly decrease intense side-effects of therapies. From a young age, Macy was always interested in mathematics and biology. She combined her passion for the two in this project. Macy was inspired to conduct this work due to losing her mother from cancer. Yang will be pursuing Applied Mathematics at MIT, Caltech, or Vanderbilt University. Many congratulations to Macy and the Yang family!
